The Art Of Piano

Exciting new piano music.
I purchased a pdf copy of this book about a week ago. As a pianist who loves classical music, I often long for something new in that realm that offers the same kind of musical depth – music that is current, that also captures something timeless. That is what I find in David Hicken’s compositions. His description of his music as “classical crossover” is a good characterization.
This is real music for pianists with some level of technical ability. It incorporates a lot of “classical” elements from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, but David brings them into the present with his own compositional style and shapes them with his own life experiences and passions.
The music in this book is exciting and heartfelt. From the sampling of pieces I’ve tried so far, they all have rich, interesting harmonic progressions. They all brim with energy. Most are very rhythmic with a lot of syncopation, some have sparkling melodic passages, some are full of power. They are all exciting and satisfying to play - the kind of music that keeps me awake at night while I'm learning it, because I can't get it out of my head. A very well spent $25, and I will definitely be looking forward to exploring more of David Hicken's music.
